A new study shows that the U.K.’s privately educated elite continues to dominate the leading professions and industries such as law, politics, medicine and journalism.
This year’s study that had been conducted by The Sutton Trust confirms what has long been known: if your children are privately educated, they have considerable better chances to get to the top in the United Kingdom.
Currently, only 7% of the nation’s population attend private, independent fee paying schools according to the survey. The report also shows that almost 3/4 of top military officers in the nation were educated privately with 12% having been part in comprehensive schools.
74% of those working in the field of law, including those in the High Court and appeals court are privately educated. In jJournalism, the percentage is even larger with 51% of the leading print journalists having attended an independent school, one in five having attended comprehensive schools.
A stunning 61% of the nation’s top in the medical doctors were educated at independent schools according to this new Sutton trust study. 22% went to grammar school while the remainder attended comprehensive schools.
Astonishingly, the picture looks a little better in regards to politics. Less than a third (32%) of MPs in the nation have been privately educated. On the other hand, half of the cabinet visited a private school.
